The writer of “Going Nuclear” is talking about using a nuclear for the source of energy. The writer said nuclear energy is a superior form of energy for several reasons. First, the writer explained how the nuclear produces enormous amount of energy by shows the chemical reaction. Second, the writer said nuclear energy has economically benefits- even though, it was expensive to build the plants before, but it is the cost is getting decrease these days and the cost of energy source is cheap. The writer said that fossil fuel price is rising that using nuclear helps electron price keep cheap. Additionally, the writer also said that nuclear energy makes new job, increase hire rate, stimulate economy and environmental friendly so it helps economic. According to the writer, the waste of nuclear energy is radioactive material but enormous studies improved the safety of nuclear waste contain system that we do not need to worry about it. The writer compared the amount of carbon when the energy source produces the energy to emphasize that nuclear is great environment friendly then fossil fuel. Because, the fossil fuel release the large amount of carbon which is the one of greenhouse gasses when they produce the energy but nuclear does not. The writer write about the negative opinion of using nuclear energy like unexpected disaster, but he also suggested the solution and opposite side of the problem that more developed his statement. Overall, the writer uses the scientific professional information to support his statement and this is accurate information that helps statement to be reliable.

“Radical But Right” asserts animal should have to their right for protect human’s harm. To suppose the statement, the writer explained the benefits which from stop killing animal for food. According to the writer, by stop eating meat, the risk of having cancer, heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol and so on are decreased. Additionally, it is good for Earth because eating vegetable sustain the balance between maximizing people’s potential nutrition and minimizing the obstacle of maintaining the earth itself. The writer said less the amount of protein for animal and supplies to poor can release the worldwide starvation problem. To support the idea, the writer uses Deterlind,D’s text to show the fact. The article which Deterling wrote is about the amount of food for cow. The title of article is “Cows don’t need daily supplement” and explained by using scientific specific numbers. Deterling compared the amount of food which the cow required and which actual supplied and consists to give food twice a week. The writer of “Radical But Right “ cited the Deterling’s article to show how much amount of protein is feeding on cattle. The quotation what writer wrote said twenty one pounds of protein is fed to make one pound of meat protein. From this quotation, we can see the big loss of protein during making the meat and understand that we can save much protein by cut short the meat eating. As a result, by using the citation, the writer suggested the fact to give reliance of the information and shows the comparison by number that we can easily understand the seriousness.

Most of history stories are talks about the winner’s story to boasting their own nation. The achievements of the great men are good way to let the nation learn the pride and love for their countries. However, some of history should have to be written by loser’s focus like the Holocaust or the aggression of the Japanese Empire. Korea is sensitive in Japanese history textbook because Japan tries to pervert their invasion. They use subtle expression as deny their coercive oppression and they write the aggression as it was justified. So, Korean always closes watch on Japanese history text book. However, when we learn American history, it is hard to see the Native American’s focus story. We can read their story only from a literature or personal search, not history text book. The history that I learned was about when Europeans started settle and how they move to another state with aimed gold. If we could learn an additional history which focus on the Native American, our viewpoint of them would be different. It is necessary to listen how painful that lose their homeland. I heard that Indian Reservation Areas are still exist and their lives in a needy life. If the truth that Native Americans are deserved to compensation treatments, they may not be in need anymore.

After read “From Two Years in the melting Pot”, I could fully understand Liu’s situation and his feeling because I also foreign student from Korea. However, I think staying with own country people would not too bad. I usually being with Korean friends and we go library and have meal together. Even though I would use Koreans a lot, I could still learn English from them and take comfort by being together.

Learning English from native speaker is the best way to learn language. However, in real life, it is hard to learn from them. For example, the native speakers who I can meet often are dormitory friends. They are really kind and try to fallow my poor expression. I can have conversation with them a lot, but I mainly use simple expression that I used before. So, my English expression is always as same as before. Additionally, they are trying to understand my poor English, but they do not correct my wrong expression and teach me better words because they are not my English teacher. So, I could never know what my problem is. On the other hands, if I am with Korean friends, I could ask the English expression. Korean friends know what I want to try to say and they could give appropriate expression exactly that I wanted.

The other advantage of being with own country friends is I can rely on them mentally and physically. The people who are from same country are already suffered same problems before. So, they could give advice which from their own experience and give great solutions. For instance, one day, I cough a cold and this fact spread among the Korean friends. And next day, one friend gave medicine, one friend gave me a hot tea from Korea and one friend barrow me a thick blanket for warm me up. The rest of friends send me a text message to cheer me up and these ease my mind.

There are advantages and disadvantages in hanging out with own country friends. However, I could learn English in other ways through these friends and they give me great consolation that helps me in many ways.

blog assignment 3. Nonverbal communication

Every language has their own grammar, vocabulary and so on. So, if you want to learn a new foreign language, you can learn reading, listening, speaking and writing. However, there is another factor in language, nonverbal communication. For me, English is a foreign language that American nonverbal communication is not familiar. Especially, eye contacting could be a good example.
The eye contacting is accepted as different meaning in Korea and America. Eye contacting time in Korea is much shorter than America. It is because of strong Confucianism that Korea has. In Korea, gazing at the old people is a rude behavior. The old should have to be respected that the young must stand at attention and lower their position to the old. The greeting with banding down also means the respect to the others by lowering their position. For instance, if you are scolded from a teacher, parents or elder who to be respected, you should have to be crouch your body little big and lower your eyes. If not, like keep the eye contacting with them, it could be meaning you are fair that you do not have anything wrong. However, in America, eye contacting means respect for the speaker that shows you are paying attention to them. So, avoid eye contacting while they rebuke means you are indifference the speaker’s talking. For this reason, America people are familiar in an eye contacting to show their regard. But, for me, long eye contacting is not familiar that makes me embarrassed and, I have to avoid meeting their eyes.

According to the “The First Four Minutes”, four minutes is looks very short time but it is enough time to make new relationship. Additionally, writer quote the advice from Dr, Leonard Zunin’s research that the way to be popular. Frankly, I totally agree with this text. I always try to make good relationship with many people, and also try to give good impression to them. Furthermore, I had experience that tried to changing my character when I was young so I can agree with the writing with my whole heart.
When I make new people and make new relationship, I try to be “heartful friend” to them. First of all, I always try to be in their shoes. I have a friend name, Jung-ho. He does not talk a lot, but he always listen my story carefully and then gave me an advice that exactly what I looked for. One day, I realized that even though he does not talk a lot, I always call and talk to him whenever I have problem and want someone to talk about. Before I met Jung-ho, I usually talk a lot rather than listen to others. However, I could know the importance of good listening. Having opened ear to hear others story so that I can give a truly advice from fully understand their feeling. Secondly, I try to have “health mind.” I love laughing and smile, try to be optimistic and do my work hardly. The smile and laugh is easy to infect to the others and makes happy together. In addition, looking on the brought side makes me positive and encourage myself. I always have a plan for my future and keep move on for it. Doing my work hard with happiness makes other people to get courage and makes them dreaming. The friends call me “bright girl” and they likes to talk together. They said when they talk with me, they can feel the happiness from me and makes them to think about their dreams and future.
This character was not inborn. I was really quiet and shy girl when I was elementary school. One day, I read a description about chance in Greece myth. Chance has woolly front hair but bald back hair. This means catch his hair when you met the chance, or not you can’t catch his back side after he passes you. I aware that just stay quietly never be benefit for me. As time passed, I go to middle school, high school, and university and I could meet new place with new people. I keep changed to meet people, and find the way to make friend. Finally, I could learn the way that how to find same interest. With same interest, we can talk same topic, find similarity, and feel free to be a friend.
Until today, I still meet new people and makes new relationship. I still want to be a nice friend who can give good effect and helpful friend for each others. Not just makes new relationship is always good but finding good friend is important. As I look for good friend, I hope to be a good friend to them.

part 2. After reading "Mother Tongue"

“Mother Tongue” is the story about the writer herself story that the suffered from Chinese formed English. Through this truly story, we could know the power of the language that we are used to. This is also can explain the different word using in different generation in Korea, my country. The young generation usually uses “shorten” words in internet chat and text messages. Therefore, the new “shorten” words are keep creating and the old generation have no way to know the meaning of the words. In addition, more younger people makes “Alien word” that use similar shape symbols instead of letters and this makes the generation gap bigger then before. I had experience that my mother could not understand the word meaning “drop the class.” The word was often used within me and my friend, but my mother could not understand. Same ways, one day I found out that I could not understand the text message from my younger sister because we use the word that I had ever seen. This “shorten” words are problem that some television program, like comedy show use these words. From this effect, the people are be used to use the “shorten” word and easily to make mistake that use in formal situation. For example, I was tried to write the letter to my professor, but I can’t remind the formal word. I was too familiar in using casual word that I feel difficulty in using formal word. However, through reading “Mother Tongue”, I could aware of the important the word and language that use most of time.
